Jump, Girl Jump Program to Address Youth Health, Exercise Issues

Illinois recently announced more than $1 million in Women's Health Initiative Grants for non-profit organizations, health departments, and service agencies
in downstate Illinois to institute educational programs about menopause, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. The Perry County Health Department will receive $10,000 to administer the
Jump Girl, Jump program for young girls within the county, which addresses nutrition and exercise issues. |
Nationally Recognized Speaker at PCHD Pandemic Preparedness Coordinating Committee Meeting
William Stanhope of Saint Louis University School of Public Health's Center for the Study of Bioterrorism and Emerging Infections spent the evening with Perry County Health Department and other
Perry County first responders. Drawing on historical references to the 1918 influenza pandemic, Mr. Stanhope explained the importance of placing public health at the highest level of importance in
an influenza epidemic. Mr. Stanhope was introduced by Perry County Health Department's Administrator, Doug Corbett, who opened the evening meeting by detailing the importance of communication and joint
planning amongst the first responders. |
